Welcome!
Artist's Bio:
Fred has been producing artistic digital photographs for several years. Hailing from Massachusetts, Fred has lived near Frederick, MD since 1998, where a scientific career fostered his photographic skills. Fred believes that his subject matter should be self-evident, and appreciated by a diverse audience. His images emphasize color and natural light, since humans can visualize many hues. However, occasional black-and-white images are produced. In all cases, software manipulation is always minimal. A graduate of both Gettysburg (BA, 1998) and Hood (MS, 2008) Colleges, Fred has participated in solo and group shows in Maryland. His work hangs in private collections in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Artist's Statement:
I have been producing artistic digital photographs for several years now. My training and interest were fostered through my career as a scientist, where specialized photography is integral to my work, emphasizing a properly framed and accurate the subject, demonstrating specific and very subtle features. These ingrained techniques tend to be characteristic of my artistic work.
In general, I prefer to photograph subjects such as landscapes and environments, animals, weather, travel and architecture. My work is unique in that it tends to emphasize, along with an interesting subject, a mood created by the natural colors and ambient light effects of the scene. My photographs are all digitally produced, and I use manipulative software only sparingly. I prefer to work in color, since human beings can distinguish so much of the visible spectrum. However, an occasional scene lends itself better to production in black and white. As well, I tend to stray away from photographing people as subjects, as well as anything staged, such as a still-life. However, there are always exceptions to every rule.
